Product information

Each structural door pack is available in either Cavalok 100mm or BigBlok 125mm and 150mm profiles. We can supply them in kit form or as a made up cavity closer in either two (brace jambs), three or four sided configurations. All come with 20 brick ties to enable the closers to be securely built into the structural opening for maximum benefit from this product.

What material are structural cavity closers made from?

Structural cavity closers are typically constructed from reinforced material like PVC-U with structural foam inserts. This combination is specifically engineered to provide exceptional strength and rigidity while providing excellent thermal performance, making it ideal for permanently and securely fix a door to.

What is the difference between a structural and non-structural cavity closer?

A structural cavity closer is typically best suited to openings that will house a door as it gives the ability to direct fix the door frame into the cavity closer. Removing any reliance on strap fixings and the movement that can cause. This is acheived by using a heavily compacted foam insulation rather than the standard type insulation, whilst retaining the insulating properties of a standard closer. This gives the Structural cavity closer great screw retention allowing for the direct fixing of various door types.

Do I still need a lintel if I’m using a structural cavity closer?

Yes, you still need a lintel. While structural cavity closers add strength and stability around structural openings, they are not a substitute for a lintel. Lintels are specifically designed to bear the load of the wall above the opening and transfer it safely to the surrounding structure.

Are structural cavity closers fire-rated?

Currently, no structural cavity closers are fire-rated, but other fire-rated options are available depending on the specific product and application. At Subframes UK, we supply structural cavity closers, in 100mm, 125mm and 150mm. While these products are not inherently fire-rated, they can be paired with additional fire-rated cavity barriers to comply with Building Regulations, including Part B for fire safety.
